computers

Building computers is quite fun! Some might say it’s basically giant lego pieces that go together to form a complete system.

The first computer hardware stuff I’ve ever did was with my first laptop! I changed it’s thermal paste multiple times and the keyboard at least once, bought straight from ebay!

Since those days I’ve had another laptop where I needed to change both the thermal paste, multiple times but also the screen…

Here you can see the Backup Machine.

You can see a computer case with 2 sticks of ram, a stock CPU cooler and 2 hard drives. There’s one exhaust fan at the back.

The first salary I had when I was first employed I invested into a computer, though! Not built my me but the first I would modify! It was too loud so I bought some noctua fans and cooler, it had a 5600x and I wanted more! So I eventually bought a 5800X3D and also went from a 3060Ti to a 4070.

I’ve now also built a full server with 6 12TB disks, 2 2TB SATA SSDs and 1 2TB NVME, with 2.5gb! And also the backup, a server with 4 18TB disks and 1 500gb NVME…

Here you see the Homelab, the one I just described.

So yeah, it’s been a lot of fun. I really am a fan of the AM4 platform, it’s now 4-5 years old and still competes with current generation CPUs, truly impressive. It’s a shame that RAM is now so expensive, though. I am waiting for a delivery of 128gb of ddr4 from Amazon. that will be one of the last additions to the server as it is…

The latest computer I built was a computer for giving away, a 5600x, a 6500XT, for 2025 is not a very strong machine, however, for regular day to day use, web browsing, writing a few documents, it’s totally fine!

The idea is that when the 128GB comes for the main server I can move the 32GB there for this new computer, because at the moment it only has 4GB of RAM. I’ll be giving this computer away to a person in the 50s-60s age range hence why these specifications are completely fine!
